I've always been a neat person. So is my roommate. Going into other people's rooms halfway through the year, I wondered how they put up constantly living in a state of chaos, clutter everywhere and clothes thrown every which way. So I thought that packing to go home would be a breeze. I love cleaning... this is just a lot... all at once. I'll be fine, right? I was so wrong. It's a lot harder than you think. So without further ado, these are some things that you can do to make it all easier.

1. Start saving boxes in advance.

Why pay for things that you can get for free? All those amazon packages, while maybe not huge boxes, can be used to put miscellaneous things inside and make it a lot easier for you to bring stuff home from your dorm or apartment.

2. If going home for a weekend or spring break, bring clothes that you don't wear that much and leave them at home.

Giphy

It'll make it so much easier when lugging all of your clothes home.

3. Consider renting a storage unit.

I live across the country from my college, so I'm storing all of my winter clothing, bedding, and extra things here like textbooks or things I don't need. It will save money if you're flying and bringing a bunch of checked bags.

4. Donate items you don't use.

Giphy

Before you pack everything up, decide if you even need it or are going to use it.

5. Remember all of the good times you had in this place.

Giphy

Instead of despairing that the year is over and goodbyes are imminent, think of all the good times you had in your dorm/apartment.

It's not about the place you're in, but the people you're with. Packing up can be stressful and sad, but at the end of the day it's necessary. You're about to start a new chapter, whether you're ending another year of school or ending your last year of school.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
