Ending this semester with a 2.8 GPA, this has been my worst performance academically. I’ve never gotten below a 3.0 and I always get at least one A. However this semester has been the easiest in terms of my mental health.
Every semester has been a struggle to balance good grades and academic behavior, and mental health and happiness (Good grades, sleep, and a healthy social life. You can only pick two).
This semester I’ve decided to put myself first. I understand the importance of succeeding academically but I don’t believe you should do so at the cost of your sanity. I feel most college kids can agree with me that they are stressed out and sleep deprived. Between work and school, it is hard to find time for yourself.
Between 22 papers, 20+ quizzes, and other assignments it was a tough semester. I completed all of my assignments this semester. I also did a lot of myself this semester. I did a little travel, went to a couple concerts and got a few tattoos.
Looking back on every semester, I don’t remember my GPA or what I got on my final. 10 years from now I’m not going to remember who the class valedictorian was or who graduated with honors (If it wasn’t on my associates degree I wouldn’t have know I graduate with honors). I remember late nights with friends; 1 a.m. Sheetz runs, post-concert drives down I-70 singing to our favorite songs, the views after an hour long hike. You know, the fun things you did instead of studying.
Everything is about moderation, and that takes time to develop while you're in college but it is a lifetime skill to have. Understand and be good at what you're attending school for, but don't forget to get out and have some fun!
