Last August, I was an incoming college freshman. I knew it would be a blast, however, there were several things I had not anticipated experiencing. It was always an adventure, and I made some important discoveries throughout the semesters. College has been an amazing experience so far, here are the too 6 things I learned along the way (learn from my mistakes).
1. Don't Procrastinate
It's super easy to push aside homework in favor of hanging out with friends, but don't! Homework can pile up super quickly, and it's helpful to stay on top of it. By doing some every day or so, you can prevent late night cramming/crying sessions.
2. Don't Gossip
Gossip travels like wildfire. Especially at a small school, where everyone knows everyone, saying something mean about another girl will get you in a lot of trouble. Even if it's true, try not to say anything mean. It may be satisfying in the moment, but saying mean things about people behind their backs will come around to bite you in the end.
3. Call Your Parents
It's easy to get caught up in college activities and totally forget, but try to call your parents at least once a week. They miss you like crazy, and talking to them can really make a difference.
4. You Will Make Some Bad Grades
It's okay. College is a new experience, and with that come new challenges. Studying and taking notes in college is a completely different experience than it was in high school, and it may take a week or two to really grasp how to transition into college work. A couple of bad grades won't determine your future.
5. Spend Time By Yourself
In college, you'll find yourself constantly surrounded by people. Whether you're in class or in your room, odds are you will be with a couple close friends. It's good to socialize, but it's also important to take some time for yourself. It'll help you rest and allow you to be more productive.
