Most college students cannot afford a healthy, organic or gluten-free type of grocery list. Also, being in college, there is a lack of time and lack of pots and pans. College kids need something quick and easy! However, there is more than just fast food and ramen out there!

1. Fruits

Most fruit you can buy by the pound. But, you don't have to buy a pound! A few bananas will only be about a dollar. Most grocery stores have small apples three for $1. Just because it says priced per pound doesn't mean you have to buy a pound!

2. Cheese roll-ups

A package of tortilla shells and a package of cheese will cost around $3 and could easily make a week's worth of snacks or lunches. Put a shell on a paper towel, sprinkle some cheese on it and stick it in the microwave for a few seconds! Add some salsa to spice it up!

3. Frozen burritos

Most grocery stores sell frozen burritos for $1 and avocados for about $1, too. Add some salsa or melted cheese and you will have a loaded burrito!

4. Yogurt

Most grocery stores have their own brand of food, which is normally less expensive. Grab the store brand yogurt for about 40 cents, then add some granola or fruit on top and make a nice breakfast or snack out of it!

5. Frozen veggies

A bag or frozen veggies are about $1 and can easily be doctored up with butter and cheese to make a yummy, semi-healthy meal!

6. Deli products

At the deli section, they offer meats sold by weight and also different sides such as coleslaw and different cold salads. Again, you don't have to buy by the pound, get a small cup and individual servings for just about $1!

7. Markdowns

Every grocery store offers a marked down section, but it might be hidden in the corner, so don't be afraid to ask. You can find breads, cookies, cakes, bagels, etc. for only $1 or so!

8. Pasta

Spaghetti, fettuccine, macaroni! Pasta is very cheap and you can make large servings to last through the week. Boxed pasta is just $1 and the store brand sauces are a little over $1.

9. Salad

At restaurants, salads can be as much as a steak! But at the grocery store, a head of lettuce is normally about 99 cents, and you can grab some toppings like carrots, cucumbers, onions or croutons all for about $1 apiece. A few dollars can be enough for about four or five salads!

10. All-American hot dogs

Hot dogs, buns and macaroni and cheese, can all be purchased for under $5 and can last all week! It is the all-American diet!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
