I can't speak for everyone but I can say that for me, weed has definitely helped me survive my first year of college. It has been my best friend, my right-hand, and my go to. You may think this sounds detrimental and counterproductive to the success of my college career, but you could not be more wrong. Along with the typical struggles that come with being a first-year student, as well as suffering from anxiety, here are six ways weed helped me to survive and be successful throughout my freshman year of college and maybe yours too.

1. It can relieve your crippling anxiety.

Every college kid probably suffers from anxiety of some sort. Best way to relax? Roll up a joint. Smoking helps to relax and calm you down. It helps you to stop worrying and overthinking. A lot of college kids consume weed just because it genuinely aids as a stress reliever and we all tend to be over stressed. There's nothing wrong with a little natural relief.

2. It can help you to focus.

I know that when I'm stressed about an exam or essay it makes it a lot harder for me to clear my mind and to concentrate and focus. Consuming weed can help you focus on what you're doing. You forget about the stress and you stop worrying. You're able to just focus on what you're supposed to be doing right then and there.

3. It gets the creative juices flowing.

Have to write a 6 page essay and you can't figure out what to write about? You have to put together a 45 minute presentation over the history of evolution? Not a problem! Just take a quick smoke break. You'll have tons of new, great ideas after a little creative inspiration. It might just be your best work yet!

4. It helps rid of migraines and headaches.

Do you get headaches from being sleep deprived from staying up studying? Do you ever find yourself stressing way too much and then end up with a headache? Does the crippling pain from your migraines ever get in the way of you trying to study or do homework? No worries. You can always feel better with a little cannabis in your system. Inhalation methods of cannabis has been proven to have the fastest effects and is more likely to stop migraine headaches in their tracks than edible cannabis.

5. It makes you happy and hungry.

Some college kids tend to go through depression and are stuck with the side effects of depression. Side effects can include loss of appetite, overwhelming sadness, anxiety, and much more. Consuming cannabis can help to alleviate these side effects. It is no secret that weed definitely makes you want to eat. Smoking weed also takes you mind to another place and can make you happy during your high. You temporarily forget all the bad and you can just be happy. And hungry.

6. Being high from weed is definitely better and safer than being drunk.

Everyone knows that college kids love to destroy their liver and get crazy drunk. It's gross and there's a much better option. Get high. I promise you will feel way better than alcohol can make you feel and you don't have to deal with an unbearable hangover. It's a much safer alternative.

Not all college kids consume weed but a lot do. We shouldn't be shamed or thought of as bums or potheads because of this. A lot of us use it for the medicinal effects and for that fact that it does relieve you of stress. There's no harm in that. We're all just trying to make it day by day in college. If college has you feeling overwhelmed then feel free to take some time for yourself and roll up. Just be safe and smart about it.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
