College Is Out, So Now What?

College is out for the semester, and what can we do to fill up our summers? Between working and preparing for next year, it’s obvious we're all catching up with our friends from home and enjoying our time off. But what are we going to fill all of this free time with? Well, here are a few ideas to get you off of the couch on your days off and out enjoying the summer off from textbooks and tests.

1. Go to a concert.

Let’s face it, we’re college students and don’t have too much to spend, but you can buy a cheap lawn seat ticket for some of your favorite artists' concerts this summer for about $20. Spend the night catching up with people from your town and fellow concert-goers, walking around the lawn and listening to the music.

2. Go for a hike.

Go hiking with some of your friends and enjoy the view! Not only will the view be worth it, but it’ll get you outside and enjoying the weather.

3. Introduce your new friends to your friends from home.

In college we meet so many new people, including some of our best friends. Introduce your new friends from school to your friends from back home. You never know, they may hit it off.

4. Look at the stars.

Grab a blanket and go find somewhere you can see the stars, and just take it all in.

5. Go on a road trip.

Pick a random place you and your friends have always wanted to go, pack a cooler and take a drive. You may find cool places along the way, so go wherever the journey takes you and explore.

6. Beach, beach, beach.

Living in New England, we aren’t too far from the beaches. Wake up early one day and drive to the beach and spend the whole day there until sunset. Fill your day with volleyball, looking for shells, swimming through the waves and soaking up the sun.

7. Go to the drive-in theater.

Going to the movies can get old after a while, and while the weather is so nice, you might as well go to the drive-in! Pack up your car with blankets and snacks, and then go enjoy the movies under the stars.

8. Plan a trip.

Look into something you and your friends could do for spring break. Plan out hotels, rental houses, flights or a road trip. It’ll be something to look forward to during the school year and it'll be something you can put all your summer earnings toward.

9. Fireworks.

On the Fourth of July, make sure that you take time to go and see the fireworks while spending time with your friends and family. You don’t get to see them that often, so make sure you do.

10. Spend a day with your family.

While away at school, we don’t get to see our families as much as we’re used to. Whether they tell you or not, they miss you. Make sure while you’re home for the summer, you make some time for them and create new memories, whether it's family vacation to just having a chill day at home.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
