College Is NOT How The Movies Make It Out To Be, And That Definitely Takes Some Of The MAgic Out Of It

Proceed into college with extreme caution.

In some ways, the movies we watch do mirror some of the things that you experience while at college, but in a whole lot of other ways, it is not that same. These movies are extremely deceiving, so proceed into college with caution.

A lot of movies perceive college as extremely hard and the most stressed out that you will ever be, this is mostly true. However, going out to parties and ignoring the pages of homework there is to do is not the way to handle it. Yes, this happens, but they fail to portray the girl or guy alone in the library crying over their midterm they know they can't pass.

They fail to mention the ones who spend their days worrying over a single bad grade they received. Just know that you are not alone. Hours upon hours of studying go into getting good grades, for some it is easy and for others, it is a constant struggle.

We joke about how high school and college really are not that different, but they are, we chose to do this and now we have to work harder for it than ever.

Do you know those notorious party scenes in movies? Yeah, college parties are cool, but they have an ugly side. If you have never had to hold your friend's hair back while she's puking up her life, are y'all really that close? It isn't pretty to see your friends like that, it isn't glamorous or funny.

Have you ever had to hold your friend while she sobs into your shoulder because some frat boy treated her like trash? It breaks your heart.

Going to those parties make you wish you were at home and make you feel guilty for going out instead of doing homework. College is a constant battle of wanting to have a flourishing social life and keeping your grades up. Is there a balance? Yes, if you can find it.

Unfortunately, you'll have to miss out on some of the crazy parties to get good grades, and you'll get a few bad grades on homework because you were out so late. The balance is hard to find, but when you do, you'll still not feel like your life is together. Sorry to break it to you, but college is hard in all aspects of it.

College is all the things shown in the movies and nothing shown in the movies all at once. You get the memorable moments, the raging parties, the nights crying alone in the library, and the feeling of freedom. It is ugly, beautiful, happy, sad, and every emotion either all at once or on their own. College is not for everyone, so proceed with caution.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows.
