Being short on cash is basically a prerequisite to being a college student these days. We’re pinching pennies any way we can, from endless Ramen lunches to skipping the mall altogether to avoid any temptation. But there are a surprising amount of discounts out there when you present a student ID, and some of these popular places might surprise you, taking away some of the guilt when you decide to splurge a little. While the discounts vary from store to store, here's a list of stores, restaurants, and attractions that offer student discounts - just be sure to contact your local establishment first.
The next time you’re at the mall, keep these stores in mind. They’ll offer a discount if you show a student ID.
1. Charlotte Russe - 10% off - They already have low prices as it is, so an added discount wouldn't hurt at all.
2. J.Crew - 15% off - This one’s a little pricier, but a nice discount might soften the blow - at least a little bit. (They also have outlet stores that offer discounts up to 50% off in addition to the student discount!)
3. Vineyard Vines - 15% off - For the sorority girl in all of us.
4. GoodWill - 10% off - The thrifty college student just got a little thriftier.
If you get tired of the same old dining hall food and feel like treating yourself, these discounts will give you some more bang for your buck.
The following restaurants offer a 10% discount:
1. Arby's
2. Buffalo Wild Wings
3. Burger King
4. McDonald's
5. Subway
The following restaurants offer a free drink with purchase:
1. Chipotle
2. Chick-fil-A
3. Qdoba
Here’s a few other miscellaneous places that offer a student discount:
1. Amazon - students can get a free six-month trial of Amazon Prime, plus a $10 credit if they refer a friend.
2. Spotify - Spotify Premium is 50% off for all students.
3. AMC Theaters - Students can purchase discounted movie tickets on Thursday nights.

While being a college student may mean students loans, rent payments, and debt up to your ears, it doesn't mean that you have to stop going out and having fun altogether. With a little budgeting and strategy, going out doesn't have to cost you a fortune.
