College Goodbyes

No matter who you are, you say goodbye to a special someone when leaving to go back to college, and those goodbyes are hard.

Good bye my dear old friend.

For us college students, every year it seems to feel the same...well, at least in regards to goodbyes. Any time a student leaves to go back to school there is always that one thing that they have to do, which is saying goodbye to their loved ones, including friends. I know that my family will always be there for me, and saying goodbye to them can be hard but I know that when I come home, that they are the ones who will be waiting for me. Personally, I believe that one's close friends are the hardest to say goodbye to.

With that said, as the new semester is just over the horizon, I commence with my goodbyes. Some are easier than others, while on the other hand, some are always so tough to do. For myself, a difficult one would be my best friend. Although I'll see her whenever I can during the period of time when I am home, those ten months away at school can be lonely at times. None of my hometown friends go to college with me, which meant I had to make an entirely new group of friends, and luckily I did.

Those last few days of summer are spent hanging out with friends, and having a good time. My best friend and I usually hang out, bake, play some video games like "Mario Kart" and "Guitar Hero," and other games like Skip Bo and Twister—whatever we can do in the name of just having fun.

For those who are going into their first year of college, let me tell you something about saying goodbye to best friends. It. Sucks. It feels like you are leaving your other half. It can break your heart but at the very same time, it strengthens your friendship. Just over the past two years my friendship with my lovely bestie has developed incredible strength. Even if we are fighting, I know at the end of the day, she and I will be perfectly fine.

So here I am, less than a week I will move into my dorm, and leave the town I knew as home. There will be tough days, and there will be good days, and it does not matter what year in college you are, you will get homesick from time to time. I do almost every day, but I know that as a result college will be well worth my time and money.

Here is a tip to saying goodbye; never say the actual word, "Goodbye.'" Instead of that evil word, say "see you later" or "see you soon" or my favorite, "I will see you again!"

I know this may all be common knowledge, but if all you get out of this article is, my go-to tip, then I hope you use it to your advantage because it will hopefully help save some tears!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
