Going to college is certainly a major transition.

One thing that college-aged students often sacrifice during this temporary period of adjustment is their style. Sure, Baggy t-shirts with Nike shorts and Chacos are simple to default to when you just rolled out of bed and have to immediately rush to your 8 a.m., but do you really want to bid farewell to your unique identity? Fashion designer, Rachel Zoe, states that “style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” Abandoning your go-to outfit is OK sometimes. If you allow yourself to have an open mind, it is quite enjoyable, as well. You don’t have to dress up to impress a guy. That is not the point to extract here.

You can do it just for yourself, and that is reason enough! If you need a slight confidence booster, an outfit is the best and simplest way to do so. If you would like to diversify your style, without strenuous effort, here are a few basic, modest, and classy wardrobe essentials and tips you may want to keep note of.

1. Color, texture, pattern, and shine.

Renowned fashion stylist Stacy London emphatically drives this point home! An outfit should be fun. It should reflect who you are and what you seek to reveal to the world. An outfit that comprises all of these facets is not likely to disappoint.

2. Goodwill.

Whether you are on a budget or not, Goodwill and other thrift stores are excellent places to shop! The possibilities here are truly endless!

3. Plan ahead.

The most beneficial thing to do is to pick your outfit out ahead of time. That way you are relieved of that morning stress, especially when you are in a rush.

4. Pointed toe shoes.

These are your best friends, really! Not only will they make your legs look longer—a definite positive for some of us short people—but they communicate class and contribute a distinct chic element.

5. Collars.

Collars are basics for every season. They look great by themselves, but even more excellent when they are layered under a sweater. Another fashionably unique look is throwing one on under your favorite casual T-shirt: a college tee for game day, perhaps!

6. Cardigan or Maxi cardigan.

You can never go wrong with a cardigan. Multiple cardigans, even. Every color, if you are really feeling adventurous! Depending on the style and length, cardigans look good with anything. A casual dress, trousers, denim, you name it. They comfortably add fluency to the outfit, and are wonderful to put on when you feel that your outfit needs some extra flare.

7. Midi skirt.

These are slowly returning to the fashion world! If you are not one to frequently sport around short skirts, and like to conceal a little more skin, these are great alternatives. They look nice with button down blouses, and even paired with casual tops.

8. Fun Pants.

Palazzo, bell bottoms, or harem pants are definite must haves! They are incredibly comfortable and feel just like you are wearing pajamas.

9. Swing dress.

Swing dresses are rather popular this season, and are definitely wardrobe essentials. You don’t have to put much thought into them. Just pair with a statement necklace and sandals, and you are good to go! Jumpsuits are ideal, as well!

10. Statement Necklace.

You can never have too many statement pieces. They will certainly make an outfit pop!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
