College Gets Harder For These "Dreamers"

The Trump organization bans DACA making it harder for these dreamers to attend college.

College Gets Harder For These "Dreamers"

The Trump administration decided to revoke all rights for immigrant teenagers or young adults to legally obtain their approved advanced two-year period deferred action of deportation and to be eligible for a work permit.

The well-known DACA program ("Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals") was created after the Dream Act that Barack Obama proposed when serving as president of the United States in November 2014. Protests have been happening in all major cities of the United States, where over 700,000 of these "dreamers" are being discriminated against and having the rights that they were promise revoked.

I can relate very much to this subject; since I am an immigrant. I do not fall under the same category since I came to the United States from Spain, I was eligible for permanent residence. I've obtained my citizenship back in September of 2018. I am also an immigrant with the same dreams and I belong to this country.

I am very proud to be from Spain, but I also feel very proud to be in the United States; since this is home to me. I wish this country would provide the opportunity to these people who deserve the advantage of all the great opportunities the United States offers. In Spain, the only way possible to go to college would be to have straight A's or to have a lot of money. Many scholarships are given out but are difficult to obtain… I have spoken to many Hispanics about the subject when it comes to college and many have said that the only way for them to be able to go to college would be if they had the money to afford it.

My mom brought me to the United States to offer me a better future, a better education, and to be finally accepted for who I am. Most of the immigrants that come here are labeled as "criminals" but most us are hard-working people that can offer the most to society. Most of them wake up every day just with the idea to accomplish their goals and fulfill their dreams. I am really thankful for the opportunity I was given to be in this country; furthermore, that's why I do want to take the advantage of being able to go to school and get a degree. I want to better myself every day or even be able to inspire someone else into my path. That's why I believe that the government should think about the subject before making a final decision that could ruin the opportunity of great people out there that just wish to be treated with respect.

Therefore; I decided to give my opinion on this topic because it hits home. We all came to the United States legally to better ourselves, get better-paying jobs, go to college and have careers. We can contribute to society in great ways, not all immigrants are criminals. This is the reason why I feel like the Trump administration should consider giving opportunities for those people that meet the requirements.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
