College GameDay is coming back to WVU! The news came early Sunday morning and hit Morgantown harder than a high street stumble on the way home from Cellar on a late Thursday night. The town, under the microscope of the entire country after some post-Baylor shenanigans, will be the major focus of the college football world along with a team who continues to surprise the nay-sayers and continue their push for a Big 12 championship.
It has been three years since Chris Fowler and his crew of politically correct analysts left Morgantown. However, as the crew made their way out, one notion remained; College GameDay would undoubtedly return one day. The entire turnout was just too much of a success to not return. As a freshman who was experiencing his first football season as a Mountaineer, GameDay was one of the best experiences of that season. Three years later, it still resides as one of my favorite memories in college.
Morgantown provides one of the most electric environments in the country when it comes to football games. We are notorious for providing crowd rowdiness of the extreme and showing up for the “Big Game” with excellent enthusiasm. A game of this magnitude was already sure to provide one of the best crowds of the season. With the added ingredient of an anticipated Lee Corso appearance, the environment will be unlike any other this place has seen.
The GameDay experience is an event in itself separate from the football game adding another reason to prepare for an unforgettable weekend. Three years ago, WVU hosted LSU in its first encounter with College GameDay. The buzz around the campus was of extreme excitation, however, the chances of the team pulling off the upset that season were low. This is a totally new GameDay experience as the team truly has a great chance of pulling out the upset. The Mountaineers come into the game riding the highs of recent successes and upset wins creating much needed optimism to the entire fan-base.
I cannot stress enough how great of an experience the entire GameDay event will be on Saturday. If you have any doubts about WVU having the greatest fans in the country, tune in on Saturday morning and check out what will be provided. We will be loud and we will be hungry for another win over a top-ten team. Let’s go Mountaineers!
