I am excited that college football games are days away. Game days are exciting because of school spirit. However, it gets frantic on campus, especially with a lot of people gearing up all over campus. With my experience of surviving game day, here are 5 things you need to do.
1. Gear up with school colors.
If you have not started buying clothes in your school colors, you need to NOW. If you show up to tailgates wearing some random colors, especially our rival school's colors, mark my words: we will judge you. Local boutiques, school stores, and even retail stores will stock up on school colors. And they are not too expensive to purchase from. Also, you will find your fellow students that will sell accessories on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook from earrings to funky sunglasses. Let's not forget this: pom-poms will sell for a dollar or less. So please, Please, PLEASE get some spirit clothes.
2. Get shoes that are made for walking miles.
On game day you could walk from your place to a fast food place, to the grocery store, to the tailgate, to the other side of campus, to the stadium just to go to the game. And you doing this in stilettos?? No, take 'em off. Put on some sneakers, sandals, platforms, and even cowboy boots! And add comfy insoles while you're at it.
3. Practice those chants.
GiphyDon't worry, I was in your place as a freshman on my first tailgate and not knowing the lyrics or chants to the ad-libs on 'Dixieland Delight' or 'Livin' On A Prayer.' But you know I would be lost if I didn't know the lyrics to my school's fight song.
But pleeeeeease, if you don't have the words to the fight song and other school spirit songs down packed by the next few games though, we are sending your lame self home to your dorm or wherever you live.
4. Rack up on snack money and eat.
You've had a ball dancing your butt off at the tailgate. But when the headache hits because you haven't ate, you know why. If you plan to get crunk at the tailgates, eat before and after you do it. And if you make it to the stadium, trust me, the concession food options are endless and they are costly. Bring at least $15-$20 for a bite to eat. Otherwise, your wallet would feel happier at a inexpensive fast food joint.
5. Take some pics

Yes, enjoy your time on game day, but capture the best moments. It could be you and your squad having a good time at a tailgate party, cheering on the team at the stadium, or even taking a pic of the winning score. And the best part: adding a catchy caption whether you joke about your team's losing streak or making fun of the opposing team because you won over them.
So freshmen, now you've got the rules to survive a game day, put them into practice. Do these and you won't stick out like a sore thumb in hundreds of students and fans.
Honestly, get hype for game day and root for your team!
