College Freshman Do's And Don'ts

Freshman year is crazy, stressful, fun, overwhelming but all in all, a great experience if you do it right. Also, you're only a freshman once! Looking back on my freshman year there are some things I wish I would've done, and somethings I wish I didn't do.

Do go to your professor’s office hours.

You may feel like a bother but trust me it never hurts to seek help. Most professors will appreciate that you take the time out to get extra help. Also they open up to you and you create relationships you'll need later in life.

Do change your major as many times as you feel necessary.

Don't settle for what you think you should do. Your major is what you intend to do with your life, you don't want to regret your decision or inability to make a decision.

Don't stick with a career path that you don’t enjoy.

As I said this will be the rest of your life you want to do something you enjoy and that you're passionate about. You want to love your career not hate it.

Do make every effort to meet new people.

One thing I didn't do was branch out and trust me I regret it. It's great to have that one close friend but the more the merrier. Being attached to one person isn't fun when that one person isn't around you, you feel restricted and can't/won't feel comfortable to go out.

Don't spend all of your extra money on take-out.

Hmm, should you go to the cafe or order Chinese? Go to the cafe! You'll save a ton more money and who doesn't love extra money?

Do make friends with your roommate.

My roommate and I were definitely cordial but we weren't friends and it bothered me. I think it would've been great to have someone to do the freshman activities with and to just hang out with in general.

Don't go home every weekend.

I live in New York so I wasn't able to go home every weekend and it was annoying when everyone else did because there'd be very few people on campus which limits the opportunity to make new friends and do certain activities. Also the more you go home the harder it'll be for you to stay at school, try not to go home within the first two-to-three weeks.

Don't be afraid to try new things.

Get out of your comfort zone! Trust me you'll be so much happier and enjoy freshman year even more. Go join that club or try new foods anything to shake things up.

Do be selfish (in a good way).

Make time for yourself! It is okay to have some down time, go for a walk, binge watch Greys Anatomy. For me having some time to myself was good. I go to unwind and just be alone especially because I play a sport I was always around a group of people it can get annoying at times.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
