10 Reasons College Students Look Forward To Winter Break

After a long fall semester of all-nighters, dining hall food, and 8 AMs, we've taken our final exams and packed up to go home for three-ish weeks. While we'll miss our school friends and being independent, the dorm bed isn't cutting it anymore and a normal sleep schedule is actually tantalizing. While being in college is simultaneously the best and worst years of our lives, the breaks are somewhat of an answered prayer

College students are under constant stress while at school, and so winter break is a much-needed escape. Here are ten reasons why college students really look forward to winter break:

Home-cooked meals

eating

Being able to eat food that isn't mass-produced or packaged is something we took for granted in high school, but it is so appreciated when we're home.

Seeing your home friends

hugs

You can't make old friends. Being with your high school best friends for a few weeks is exactly what is needed after being apart so long.

Not having to constantly refresh Canvas

laptop

Being completely stress-free because we finished the first semester's classes.

Sleeping in.. in your own bed

sleep

Not having to wake up at the crack of dawn for an 8 AM- no better feeling.

Coming home to the house being decorated

home

Your mom going all out and putting lights everywhere is truly a beautiful sight to see.

Not having to do your own laundry

laundry

If your parents do your laundry when you're home, it is a blessing.

Having one tab open on your laptop- and it isn’t Google Docs

laptop

Using your laptop for Netflix instead of typing up yet another essay.

Not being busy nonstop

relax

Having a few weeks to rest and do close to nothing is a huge reason to look forward to break.

Holiday celebrations

No matter what holiday it is you celebrate, we all look forward to break for that very reason.

Family time

Lastly, spending time with the people you couldn't wait to get away from in high school, but now miss more than anything, is the best part of winter break.

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

If you’re anything like me, you love a good cup of coffee. My coffee always comes from Starbucks; I refuse to drink it from anywhere else. Over the years, it’s become one of my biggest addictions. College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate.
