College football is back. Week one left a memorable impression and made for plenty of Tuesday conversation starters. With 87 matchups taking place between August 26 and September 5, week one of NCAA football ended with plenty of devastating upsets and unbelievable victories that will leave fans talking about for weeks to come. Here’s a recap of just 3 of the most notable and memorable match ups from week 1.

Alabama vs. Southern California

Head coach Nick Saban and his team defeated 17th ranked University of Southern California 52-6.

Biggest Take Away: ‘Bama’s defense held USC to a measly 194 yards of total offense, and more importantly, held them to zero touchdowns, something that hasn’t been done since November 1, 1997. First, ‘Bama remains top spot in College Football. Secondly, true freshman Jalen Hurts made his college football debut with an impressive 4 touchdowns.

What to Watch For: Saban is still in the process of deciding his team’s starting QB. During their game against USC, Saban played both true freshman Jalen Hurts and redshirt freshman Blake Barnett. Following the game, Saban said he plans on doing the same for week 2 against Western Kentucky. Hopefully week 2’s matchup against the Hilltoppers will provide Saban with some clarity and an answer to the pressing quarterback questions.

LSU vs. Wisconsin

No. 5 LSU fell to unranked Wisconsin 16-14. Not only did they give up 339 total yards, they only managed 257 yards of their own.

Biggest takeaway: Wisconsin is now ranked no. 10 in an AP poll (their highest ranking since 2011) following their win over LSU. They have great momentum and home field advantage on their side heading into week 2 with a matchup against Akron.

What to watch for: Everyone will be watching to see how LSU, especially its defense, redeems itself after a horrendous season-opening performance. LSU’s new defensive coordinator Dave Aranda will most likely be spending every waking moment with his nose in the playbooks in preparation for competing against Jacksonville State and future opponents.

FSU vs. Ole Miss

Talk about saving the best for last. The final matchup of week one was without a doubt the most exciting, Florida State defeated Ole Miss 45-34 after trailing 28-3 at one point.

Biggest takeaway: The Seminole’s victory over Ole Miss was the biggest comeback in the program’s history.

What to watch for: Will the Seminoles’ defense continue its dominance into week 2 and beyond? Keep your eyes on defensive trio Derwin James, Marcus Lewis and Tarvarus McFadden, who each scored their first college career interceptions against Ole Miss.

How will week 2 compare to week 1? Don’t expect to see any record-shattering performances or as many unexpected upsets as opening weekend. Teams have had a week to prepare and adjust according to their week 1 performance and will most likely play smarter and take less risks.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
