College Football’s Bowl Games: Why Fans Should Pay More Attention
The college football season is coming to a close soon, but right now, before a National Champion team is crowned, there will be bowl games airing on ESPN. These games feature NCAA FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) teams who performed well enough in the regular season to advance to the postseason. The focus, however, will be on the College Football Playoff matchups, featuring the defending National Champions, the Alabama Crimson Tide taking on fourth-ranked Washington, while the second-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes square off against the third-ranked Clemson Tigers and its high-powered offense. And while these four semi-final football games are going to draw sports fans’ attention, the other bowl games should not be neglected. Here’s why.
One reason why sports fans, specifically college football fans, should devote more of their attention to the bowl games is the display of talented players. Both college football teams from major colleges/universities around the country feature athletes that could one day make an impact for an NFL team.
Another reason why college football fans should pay more attention to the bowl games is that there may be nothing else exciting going on in the sports world. And there are times when there is nothing great to watch on other TV channels. College football acts as a final option for viewers, but if the games are blowouts or the teams are just playing sloppy football, the fans and TV viewers won’t tune in.
In all, the college football bowl season should be one that draws interest in sports fans, for a variety of reasons. The bowl games are the rewards for college football teams who performed better than expected in the regular season, and the games also showcase potential NFL talent in these athletes. Additionally, there may not be any exciting sporting events being aired by ESPN or other networks who broadcast sports, and the bowl games may be the last resort. The networks paid a bunch of money to have the games broadcasted, and they are counting on college sports fans (or sports fans in general) to watch them. Don’t disappoint, watch a college football bowl game, and discover something different.
