Fashion is constantly changing. When I first came to college, I assumed pretty much everyone would be wearing the same type of outfits to class every day. As it turns out, I began to realize that everyone has different interests and preferences when it comes to getting dressed for the day. It never occurred to me that comfort in fact isn't always everyone's #1 priority in the fashion world. Shocking, isn't it? And while of course people are always free to dress as they please, these are just a few popular trends I have noticed around my campus. If you read these and think to yourself, "None of these apply to me-- I must be doing something horribly wrong!," have no fear! You are simply just defying the standard!! Continue your uniqueness!! If you fall into one or two of them, just take pride in the fact that you are definitely not alone. Regardless, give this a quick read and let me know if you can #relate.
1. The Classic
This ensemble consists of all the basic essentials: gigantic tee shirt/tank top, Nike shorts (or leggings -- depending on the weather), tennis shoes (brand/style may vary), and the occasional pullover on the off chance that there is even the slightest gust of wind present. Not even going to try to lie to you, I am 100 percent victim to this look. I must say that you really cannot go wrong with this get-up. It's comfortable, but still pretty put-together in a way. Personally, I can't ask for more out of an outfit. Therefore, I have no shame.
2. The "Sometimes I Work Out"
Oh, please. You know exactly what I'm talking about. Otherwise known as "athleisure", this style is specifically designed to say, "Ugh I just came from a workout and I'm sooooo tired but somehow I look absolutely perfect!" Let's be real though, it's usually more of a fashion statement than anything else. I mean I don't blame you. If you can pull it off, it's definitely worth it. To those who can rock this look, I give you MAJOR props. It's a tough trend to keep up with. Workout clothes aren't cheap and definitely aren't for everyone. At the very most, this style is a great way to tell the world that you definitely have your life together -- even if you really don't. You go girl.
3. The "I Have Work After This" or The "I Had to Give A Presentation"
You poor thing, I know how it feels. Lugging around that big backpack while wearing a dress -- and all for just one presentation or a few hours of work -- is just no fun at all. All I can really think to say here is to just keep pushing through. Keep fighting. Although at the time you might feel like no one gets it, we do, we really, really do. There is no worse feeling than that of a dress slowly but surely being pulled up by your backpack and repeatedly having to pull it back down as you walk. Just remember, there are only a few more hours left until you can take it off and climb into bed with a nice comfy tee shirt on -- You will get there.
4. The Student Athlete
Your athleticism could not be more emphasized -- and I mean that in a good way. Seriously. No judgement here. Honestly, you have come so far to make it to this point so you can wear literally whatever you want. Take pride in your achievements! All of us, the outsiders over here, we respect you. That matching (insert sport here) ensemble looks great. Anyone who throws shade is just a hater! Keep on keeping on.
5. The Pledge
Alright my friend. This is just a personal message to let you know how sorry I am for the discomfort you face by wearing a coat and pants to class every day. I personally cannot imagine what kind of struggles you face, what amounts of sweat happens, because of this. In the words of Leslie Knope, "You are a beautiful, talented, brilliant, powerful musk ox." Stay strong.
So there you have it. The important thing to remember here is that whether you fall into any of these categories or not, just keep doing you when it comes to on-campus fashion. If any other trends come to mind when reading this list, or if you find yourself particularly attached to one of them, feel free to share! Have a great week everyone and remember to keep your wardrobes #fresh!
