I have a lot of women in my life. Having grown up with an older sister, a loving mother, and a beautiful girlfriend of several years, I have had a lot of time to sit back and observe. My Odyssey community recently inspired me to write an article about college fashion for girls from a guy's perspective, and I reluctantly decided to undertake the challenge. As far as I'm concerned, there are four situations in which a college girl will find themselves needing some fashion tips: class, working out, a semi-formal situation, and a formal one.
Class
Okay ladies, let's be real... nobody wants to go to class, but that doesn't mean you can't make a good impression. Bear with me now, because we are going to flip the system on its head. Instead of following the normal timeline of attire (good to bad), we are now going to get fancier throughout the year which means you'll always stand out. I'm talking first-week norts and function tees, leggings and sweaters, sports bras, you name it. Let it happen. I know it won't feel right as your peers will be sporting the fancier stuff, but you have to believe in the process. By the end of the semester, since you won't be burned out by the daily grind of trying to look cute, you'll be ready to dress for success come finals time.
Active Wear
I wish I didn't have to do this, but somebody has to. Working out is already hard enough, so try and let your clothes work for you. We're going for function over aesthetic here, so your boyfriend's XXL football dri-fit just isn't going to cut it. Make the trip to Target and snag some good sports bras, dri-fit workout shirts and some shorts or leggings. You'll thank me later.
Somewhat Formal
Going to a mid-week church service or weekend chapter meeting? Then you need some casually formal tips. Being from the south, I see nothing wrong with a sundress and some wedges, but that's just me. If the situation is a little more professional, consider a business-casual look. Maybe a maxi and some flats? IDK, dresses should do it..
Formal
The only time there are ever formal situations are actual 'formals' for sororities, fraternities or other campus groups. If there are no themes, then the rules here are simple. Keep it classy and don't look like prom.
Well, there you have it. If you learned something, I would certainly double check with someone that actually knows what they're talking about, but I tried my best.
