Dear John Jay College of Criminal Justice,
It is hard to believe that I will be officially ending my student tenure at this institution next week with classes after classes have concluded and final presentations, papers, and exams are finished by their set deadline. I am both sad and happy that this is the end of my journey here because it was one with both ups and down but nevertheless an unforgettable one that leaves me very grateful.
When I first came here it was my aspiration to choose a major that would help me understand the law more as that was my desired area of study. It led me to choose political science, which I had initially liked but ended up detesting by sophomore year since it included long readings which only mention how these laws came to be and nothing else after. There was something else I wanted from my major so I made the switch to global history and decided to also minor in humanities and justice which I absolutely loved.
Learning about the world and various historical arguments, as a history major, kept me engaged from beginning to end making me feel my college experience was at a positive point and allowing me to think more about life after obtaining my bachelor's. I still thought about law school. But was told by a few professors that pursuing teaching could work out for me. It had never crossed my mind to make that a career, but now that is what I want to do.
From beginning to end, the time I spent at John Jay College of Criminal Justice will always be meaningful to me because of everything it allowed me to experience from choosing a major and minor that suited my goals to being a student leader for some time to meeting a whole bunch of amazing people who became the good friends I will always cherish for being a part of my life. Thank you, John Jay for everything you have given me because I will always remember it for the rest of my life. Until we meet again, you are always in my heart.
Sincerely,
Rohan Kumar
