There is no experience quite like going to college. It is the one time in your life that you will be completely surrounded by people your age. College is such a unique experience and is individualized to each person, so trying to sum it up in five words is difficult, but here goes.

1. Challenging

The first thought that comes to mind when the words "college" and "challenging" are put together is probably studying for classes. While classes are challenging, there are many different aspects of college that also pose a challenge to students. Living away from home is a big challenge, no matter how independent you think you are. As I was finishing up my senior year of high school, I was known as the independent one who would do just fine away from home. Guess who ended up driving home after classes on weekdays? That's right, me. Also, time management is extremely important in college, so if you don't already have those skills, college will be quite the challenge. Motivating yourself to go to class is also challenging when the professors don't take attendance. At a university, it's up to you, not your mom, to get you out of bed and going in the morning.

2. Exciting

College is definitely one of the most, if not the most, exciting times of your life. You learn so much about the world and yourself during your time at a university. Getting to experience life away from home is exciting. Meeting new friends, discovering new interests and attending school events are all exciting experiences college students gain during their years at school.

3. Depriving

College is also a time of deprivation. You will be lacking on sleep, real food, energy and money. Unfortunately, this cannot be helped; it's just how life as a college student is. The best advice is to power through the week and take the weekend to sleep in, visit home for a home-cooked meal and maybe beg your parents for a couple dollars.

4. Opportunistic

One of the most amazing things about college is the number of opportunities there are. Your 20s are the time to really explore the world, and what better way to do it than through your university? Studying abroad is an amazing opportunity, and I fully encourage you to go for it. I have yet to study abroad, but it is definitely on my bucket list. Joining student organizations or Greek life are also opportunities that are unique to colleges. Find what is interesting to you and go for it. Get involved! Campus job opportunities are also great because they allow you to be more plugged in at your university and make a little extra money. Do not pass up on these opportunities because they are just as much part of the learning experience as classes themselves are.

5. Rewarding

Above all, college is a rewarding experience, especially if you graduate with a degree in something you are passionate about. College provides the education required for your dream job, but it also provides so much more. Universities allow students to truly create themselves. There is no experience quite like college, so don't take it for granted. Soak up every second of your years at your home away from home.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.

15 Things That Happen On Your Birthday

Do you have a small get-together or throw a big bash?

My birthday has never been my favorite holiday. I've found that I'm more excited to celebrate my friends' and family members' birthdays more than my own. I don't like being the center of attention, so I usually celebrate over dinner with a small group of family and friends. This way, I can enjoy myself naturally without feeling like I have to entertain everyone and make sure they are satisfied. In the past when I've had large parties, I was so nervous that people weren't perfectly content that I didn't enjoy myself at my own celebration.
