College Doesn’t Speak Everyone’s Language

You do not have to go to college like it’s a need; you have a choice.

I finally figured out that not going to college is not a huge issue. College isn’t made for everyone. I can attest to that because I didn’t go to college for many reasons.

One reason is that many people are created different. Some have it easier than others. Some human brains are able to fill, retain knowledge, and remember things that I can’t even remember. So in a sense high school was smooth sailing for them which made college a suitable option for them. There are people like me who don’t have it like that, but it doesn’t make us stupid. It’s just not meant to be our next step after high school.

Hands-on learning was better in my case. It helped me learn a lot easier. Instead of putting myself in school for something I don't desire to do, I chose to take the technical school route because it was more in my range.

The second reason that some people know for a fact that college isn’t for them is the constant keeping up with hard classes and high-stress levels. I, for one, can’t deal with the constant pressure to not fail my classes because you pay for them and you need to make it worth the money. That’s especially where the stress then comes out the most.

There’s nothing wrong with not getting a degree. College changes people and it can drive them completely crazy with an overload of school work. Clearly, I can see myself perfectly fine after knowing all of what college contains.

College may give you the opportunity to socialize, stay involved with sports or get involved with Greek life. Still, it doesn’t cover the fact that college is hard and will drown you if you can’t keep up with the work overload. Therefore, college is not for me or for anyone that agrees with my reasons for not attending college.

Stay calm though. You can still get through life without college. You shouldn’t feel any less because you didn’t choose college. Some have to go because of the job career they pick, but if you don’t want one of those then, by all means, you do not have to go. College is not a need, it truly is a want.

People aren’t going to think of you less if you don’t go. You have a choice and if people judge you then they have things on their mind and want to form their own opinion. Just know college isn’t for everyone and I know that first hand because I didn’t go and I’m happy I didn’t.

Many doors were open for me, such as traveling. That was so much more enjoyable and not as stressful. So take my word when I say college isn’t for everyone. You don’t have to be that typical person that goes straight to college after high school. You can be different and do what you want to do.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
