Skipping class is important for surviving college.

College Essentials: Skipping Class

Yes, you did read this title correctly.

As a college student, you should skip class every now and again. Here's why.

We all know that college only comes around one time. You might have had a good time in high school, but I promise you that college is a much better time. College is like a new start, it is the opportunity to be and do whoever or whatever you want. That doesn't mean you should go around breaking the law like crazy and being an idiot, but that does mean that you should bend, or slightly break, some of the rules.

College can be difficult. You are getting used to new things, being on your own, making yourself go to class and pay attention even though all you can think about is the large slice of pizza you're going to have at lunch. While class is the purpose for you going to college, you're also there to learn a lot about yourself and learn who you really are. It is the transition period before you become your own person, so take advantage of it. If someone calls you and asks you to take a weekend road trip with them, take it. You might miss some of your classes on Friday, but sometimes you can learn a lot more out of the classroom than inside the classroom.

I'm not calling for you to blow off class and flunk out. What I am saying is to take some chances. This time doesn't come around again, and you are paying enough for it, so why not have some fun and learn about life while you are doing it? If you follow everything strictly by the book, never miss some class, never take and entire day to binge watch Netflix and eat pizza, what is the fun in that? We all need that time to take a step back and enjoy life and all everything that it entails.

Another reason I urge you to break some of the rules is because college, while it is a lot of fun, it is very stressful at times. I'm not one to freak out about class ever, but I will be the first one to tell you that finals week, or having a big exam coming up, can be tough on ones soul. Lord knows that we aren't perfect, and sometimes we just freak out, so why not take that day to yourself to go explore a museum, or take a road trip, or just watch some movies and take a day for you?

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
