This is my first semester living on my own. I thought of everything I needed to bring with me. My clothes, hairdryer, kitchen supplies, and of course, my dog. Not everyone brings their dog to college. Maybe because of their housing situation, pet fees, or the responsibility. I can honestly say, it is very difficult balancing school, work, social life, and making time for my dog. But, let me tell you why bringing Coco was the best decision I have ever made.
She protects me.

Coco is a 20 pound Cockapoo. It's not like she will rip someone's face off if they come in but she will let us know someone is outside. It makes me feel safer knowing that she will warn me if there is an intruder.
I have a designated cuddle buddy every night.

After a long day, all you need is a good cuddle buddy. Seeing her in my bed every night warms my heart... and my bed.
Exercise comes naturally.Â

Having a dog means walking and playing a few times a day. Luckily, Shippensburg has a dog park really close to campus so I can play fetch with Coco and she can run around without a leash.
She boosts my mood.

When I get home from class, she's right at the door waiting for me with a toy in her mouth ready to play. She always seems to know when I'm upset and will cuddle me all night. Whenever I'm sick, she stays by my side to make sure I'm ok.
Making friends is easier.

Whenever someone sees Coco, they just have to pet her. They instantly fall in love with her. I mean, it's hard not to. Coco definitely has more friends than I do.
She is my alarm clock.

I usually wake up to licks or growls from an anxious Coco wanting to go outside. But once I see those hazel puppy eyes, how can I be upset? She is by far the best alarm clock ever.
Lucky for me, Coco is an amazing dog. Not only does she keep me company but she keeps me sane throughout my school career. If you want to see more of Coco, follow her instagram: @_cocobutt
