Taking courses in high school that allowed me to receive college credit seemed like a great idea at the time. But now, looking back on my decision, I'm not so sure I made the right one.
When enrolling in these classes, the only two things on my mind was saving money since my school paid for these courses, and standing out against my peers on college applications. But what I didn't know would be on my mind later on down the road, is regret.
Now approaching my sophomore year of college, I have started to realize more and more that there is a multitude of things that I would like to do with my life, meaning that I may want to change my major. I finished my freshmen year of college with 55 credit hours, meaning that I started college right away in my major. This left me no room to explore other courses and take more electives and general educations my first year, and I now feel behind.
If you are positive that you know what you want to do with your life, then taking college credit courses in high school is a smart thing to do. But, if you are unsure, or think you might become unsure, I recommend holding back on trying to get ahead.
