College Can Really Suck At Times, But It's Okay

I'm gonna be real honest here. Sometimes college sucks. It's so easy to get overwhelmed and overworked because when you're in college you live, eat, sleep, go out and go to class all within such a small distance. Even at a school like Syracuse which has around 15,000 students, it feels like you see the same people every day.

College consumes you; it becomes your entire life.

While I love Syracuse and college life, this can be really hard sometimes.

I often find myself trying to do "non-college" things so I can feel like a real human and not overly consumed by the college lifestyle of eating at the dining hall, living in dorms, going to Schine, etc. Whether that means going to Destiny USA, seeing a movie, or going out to eat, I need to find time to get off campus and escape the bubble that is Syracuse University.

College is constantly being glamorized and over-sensationalized. It's supposed to be the best 4 years of your life, after all.

Don't get me wrong, I am definitely not saying that it isn't -- I'm just saying that it is 100% okay for it to be hard sometimes. We put so much pressure and emphasis on these 4 years. In high school, I remember constantly wishing to just graduate so that I could go to college and start my "real life". And now that I'm here -- although I do love it -- I miss those high school days. I miss driving my car to and from school, seeing my family and my dog every day, home cooked meals, and my bed!!!

I love my time here at Syracuse, but it is definitely not without its challenges.

I do realize though that this transition is a part of life -- we have to grow up someday!

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
