A Long-Distance College Boyfriend

Dating someone while in college is a positive and rewarding adventure to be a part of. The couples who get to date one another and attend the same college is a plus. However, if you're in my situation and have a boyfriend back home, it's really something special. Below are 9 reasons why it's good to have a boyfriend in college.

You always have someone who supports you and motivates you.

A boyfriend gives support that is different from everyone else. He knows exactly how to encourage you to keep going. The things he says are music to your ears, and even a simple 'I love you' from your man can go a long way.

You always have someone to text.

There's those awkward moments in life where you have to look at your phone to avoid the situation you're in. Every single one of us has been there. Instead of pretending to text somebody, you actually have your boyfriend to text. It also allows for you to find new ways to communicate. It's always fun to write letters like they did in the old days.

You always have something look to forward to.

When the school week starts to feel like months, you have the comforting feeling of knowing that Friday will eventually get here. That means the weekend has begun and you can go home to see your boyfriend. Let me tell you there is nothing better than seeing him after a long week(s).

You always have the hardest goodbye.

Along with coming home to see him or him coming to visit you, the weekend has to end. Yes, Monday comes back around before you can blink. When you have to go, you're leaving your other half behind. It gets harder every time.

But you always feel the love.

No matter how far apart you and the boyfriend are, you know he's loving you. He shows it through the nightly phone calls and FaceTime dates. You truly get to experience firsthand the phrase "distance makes the heart grow fonder."

You always have a commitment.

Trust me, this is a good thing. One of the best feelings in life is knowing you have somebody who is putting in 100% for you and only you while do the same for them. The days apart, the fights in between, and the trust that is shared is all worth it in the end. College will test just how committed you and your boyfriend are.

You always have adventures to go on.

Every time my boyfriend comes up to visit me (I go to a mountain college) there are things for us to do. Since he isn't always with me at school, this allows for us to have new and exciting dates to go on together, not to mention beautiful views to see.

You learn how to practice patience.

There is going to be a day when you question why you're even in a relationship and can't see your boyfriend. You'll have moments where the smallest things will cause you to become irritable without your boyfriend being with you. The need for him is overwhelming at times. However, these stresses go away with ease the more your patience grows. It teaches you to handle the challenges life throws at you.

You always have someone to call mine.

One thing I have learned about college is that friends will come in and out of your life. Your boyfriend though will always be that constant thing you can call yours. He is always there for you.

Although having a boyfriend back home while being at college isn't the ideal situation, you can make it work. It allows you to become independent of one another, teaches you to communicate better, and allows you go to on new excursions with your other half. Having a boyfriend in college can be one of the best things about your college experience if you have the right one by your side. It allows you both to grow in your relationship but as individuals as well. I wouldn't want to do college without my boy.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
