College Bound and Sexually Confused?

Being a student at college is hard. It's even harder when you add sexual confusion to the table.

College Bound and Sexually Confused?

Going to a college that thrives on diversity and different personalities it has become crystal clear that everything that I thought was important back in high school was crap. The amount of time and energy that people spend on trying to fit into categories is amazing. Things like being popular and wanting to be liked by everyone is no longer an important issue like it was back in high school. No one cares if you were the school nerd or the cheer captain, because everyone's to busy to care.

In college people are free from labels and can go find themselves.

One of the challenges people face when finally being free from restrictions of school is sexuality. Some people may judge you for wanting to see what is on the other side of the fence. Some people may give you looks when you start asking questions about it. Sexuality is one of those things that not a lot of people care to talk about because it can be uncomfortable. People do not like change and when it comes to questioning themselves it is even more so.

The thing is that you cannot not do something because others will judge you for it. If you choose to live your life according to other people's rules you will not be happy. This is not an opinion it is a well known fact. People should not have to suppress themselves in order to make people around them happy. Either the people in your life will accept it and move on or leave.

You have to be happy with yourself before anything and everyone else.

If you decide that you want to go and experiment with the same sex, opposite sex, and or both just know that it is okay. You do not have to feel like you are doing something wrong, because you are not. It is okay to wonder and want to know if those feelings could mean that you are not one hundred percent straight. Do not feel bad about being honest with yourself and living life the way that you want to.

Now, you might wonder if you have to pick a category right away. The answer is no take time and patience to fully understand yourself. This does not just go out to sexuality it also goes out for everything in life. It can take people years before they finally admit to themselves let alone close loved ones. However, it might not take years to figure out what and who you like and you can go to the top of the mountain and shout it out. Whenever you decide to put a label on it, just know it will great and you will have people in your corner.

Life is fleeting guys and we do not have a lot of time on earth. Stop trying to deflect and go out and live. Maybe you will be better for it. So why not go and kiss that guy or girl?

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
