5 Different Types Of Birthday Parties To Expect In College

May is my birthday month! I’m a huge advocate for celebrating birthdays because I think they’re so special. As a tribute to my upcoming birthday, I want to talk about five different types of birthday parties I’ve experienced during college.

1. Girls night

Who doesn’t love a good girls night? Ladies, let's be real. Sometimes boys just suck and we just need to spend some quality time with our gal pals. I’ve been to low key nights of just making a cake, sharing stories, manicures, and honestly, it’s just as fun as any other kind of birthday celebration.

2. Kickback

The good old college kickback. I personally enjoy these a lot, as I’m not a huge fan of a rowdy crowd. When I think of a “kickback” birthday party, I imagine a group of around 20 close friends all in the same area to help me celebrate my special day.

3. Full blown party

This is the stereotypical college rager. During this type of birthday party, everyone is going crazy, the lights are dark, and it’s really hard to move from one side of the room to the other. Need I say more?

4. Relaxing night in

For people that aren’t huge into celebrations, I get it. Sometimes all you need to have fun is just one or two good friends, take out food, and a movie. There doesn’t always have to be hype for a birthday party. The thing that matters most is that the person whose birthday it is is having fun!

5. Dinner with friends

After a long day, what better way to spend your birthday than at a good meal with friends! Good company and delicious food are enough to satisfy me. Plus, so many places give a complimentary dessert on your birthday. What's not to love about that?

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
