College bathrooms—an old tale told by inmates.

Campus Riot

College bathrooms have a notorious reputation for being disgusting! Especially on my campus. Whether it is due to lack of maturity of the residents or lack of motivated staff bathrooms in the residence halls have for lack of a better word a "bad reputation". So for all of you out there who many not have experienced a university bathroom here is some insight to what we have going up in upper education. And for those who know this struggle please don't be afraid to comment, "I feel you..."

1. It is not safe to set feet onto the surfaces of the showers. So we get creative with our footwear to the bathroom.

2. In communal bathrooms sometimes you get to know you fellow floor mates, more than you've ever wanted to know. Also you find out that some people are definitely more comfortable with their body than you are.

3. We've all have had those moments when you see a huge chunk of hair in the shower drain and it just makes you wonder.

4. We all have a favorite stall to go to, the one that we trust, the only one we trust, and when we don't get it right away we wait for it.

5. Some schools have corporations do their custodial duties in the halls... This may be economical for the school but whenever residences ask for clean shower curtains most of those custodians just go on and say...

6. Oh no lets not blame the problems only on custodians. College students are a great portion for the pee on the seat, vomit in the showers, and a bunch of other sincerely gross stuff as well. Its a fact of life.

7. Walking into the bathroom you have all of your gear, you got your towel, robe, flip flops, bathroom caddy, and you are starring stalls down hoping for an open one cause you have a class, and you seriously need a shower.

8. If you are shy you will have to come up with different and strange schedules to get in your shower without anyone in it. 5 a.m., 1 a.m., noon, the odd hours are endless. But if you time it well you could get that one moment of peace and quiet.

9. College is like a box of chocolates, when you walk into a bathroom you really don't know what you're gonna get. And sometimes its just too much for the faint hearted.

10. College is the time to make big decisions, this is the time that people learn about who they are, and its also when we make really bad choices. those 5 tequila shots... Not such a good idea. That 27th slice of pizza, nope, that guy on second floor not at all.

11. We may all make bad decisions but don't let these bathrooms create your own personal prison. College is the beacon of freedom, and remains just that. You have the freedom to discover who you are, just because the bathrooms are way below par does not mean that your experience has to be!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
