College As Told By Scrat

Sometimes, college life is awful. It's supposed to be the best years of our lives, and generally it is. However, there are moments where we just have to realize that everything we do is going wrong and just need to relax. One day, while I was watching an "Ice Age" movie with a friend, I realized just how much I relate to this tiny little prehistoric squirrel. Scrat is constantly showing how much he struggles in life and still pursues his dream -- his dream of catching his perfect acorn. For college students, that acorn is our degree.

1. When you realize there is an extra class you have to take in order to graduate.

Because we all know the struggle of forgetting that Gen. Ed. course that isn't in our major until the last second.

2. When you pull an all-nighter and still have homework to do.

We've all done this and somehow made it through the next day. You may have been a zombie, but you still did it. And you'll do it again.

3. When you think college will be easy as a freshman.

It won't be. Just accept it now.

4. When finals are done for the semester.

It's literally a euphoric moment.

5. That one paper that makes or breaks your grade.

It's the reason you hate life all term.

6. Surprise! There's that test in 10 minutes you forgot about.

"How many hours did you study?" Hah. Jokes.

7. When you have one final left.

So close.

8. When the freshmen meet the seniors.

Seniors. They're all piranhas.

9. "Have you started that paper yet?"

10. You finally get accepted from the wait list.

It's really a glorious moment.

11. Getting back a bad test grade.

You thought you did well? That's funny.

12. Going into finals week.

Your confidence is cute.

13. Making sure you're in the right room.

So many rooms. Only so much time between classes.

14. When you oversleep for your 8 A.M.

There's more love for your pillow than your degree at this point.

15. Trying to keep your GPA be like...

Because your college scholarships rely on it.

16. When it all starts to fall apart.

You think you can handle it, but you can't.

17. Realizing you're about to explode.

I wouldn't recommend actually exploding.

18. Break is over already?

23-hour naps are officially over.

19. When you finally earn your degree.

You made it!

20. Showing off your degree to potential employers.

Congratulations, you can show off a $100,000 piece of paper!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
