Freshman Year of College As Told By Friends

Freshman Year of College As Told By Friends

1. You meet a numerous amount of people in college. Some will be your best friend and others will just be a familiar face. But, you will come across those certain individuals that get under your skin. It is very normal, it is not like High School where you have to like everyone. It's acceptable to have your differences. But, you get tired of these people when you are in the same facility as them 24/7.

2. There are several times where there is absolutely nothing to do. In those 2 hour breaks between classes it is a long period of time but too short of a time to actually do something. Also, of course with stress what else are you going to do? In college all you do is eat! Hungry or not! The Freshman 15 is not a myth.

3. At the end of the semester you have three 10 page papers due, four lab reports, eight tests before you even have actual finals week with tests on tests. On top of all of this, you also have to clean and pack your dorm room with the hopes of fitting your life into your tiny beater car!

4. College means Freedom. Freedom means being able to do what you want. This means making stupid decisions with your friends. Like when you get locked on the roof of a building when you are just trying to watch the sunset or going to a buffet where the sign says dinner is $8 and it ends up being $12. In college, unfortunate events take place all the time.

5. There will be those unbearable nights of nonstop studying and working on projects or an essay. There will be nights where you are awake until 3A.M. when you have an 8A.M. the next day whether you want to be or not. You will get so aggravated you want to cry and scream at any person that tries to have a conversation with you in the process.

6. You and your besties will go to the local bar or Frat house and break out your best dance moves on a wild Saturday Night! Do not worry about being trapped inside because there will ALWAYS be something to do.

7. All the worrying you had before moving into college not worth it. Everything works out in the end. You WILL find your people. You will meet the people that will stay in your life until the day you die. College friends are forever. Do not fret because everything happens for a reason and it will work out for the better.

8. As excited as you will be to be with your home friends again, it will be very hard to say goodbye to your college pals when it is time to go home in May. 4 months is a long time apart after spending 24 hours every single day with the same people at school. But hey, being home means showering barefoot and sleeping in your own bed! No matter how hard saying goodbye is, it is not forever.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
