Once you're done with your freshman year of college, you then have the option of choosing to live off campus.
One off-campus choice is an apartment. Student apartments are the dominant market for apartment living in a college town. With an apartment, unless you're going in blind like I did the first time, you're living with friends. This can either be good or bad, but either way, it will be interesting.
When you're rooming with friends, you tend to ask random questions or say things that would tend to have others do a double take. Your roommates should love you for you.
My roommates and I do a lot of things together, and we even share some of the same behaviors.
Here are some examples of what you tend to say when you are close to your roommates:
1. "Does anyone want to hit up Chipotle again? I'm craving that burrito life."
This one can be any food place, but for us - Chipotle is life. Especially since they released their queso recently. Talk about yum!
2. "This class is killing me, can anyone help me study?"
Bonus points if one of you has taken the course before.
3. "I never thought I would be the kind of person who actually enjoys candles."
Bath and Body Works sells the best candles, by the way. Three wicks and the smells are phenomenal. Now we can't go to Target without going and smelling all the candles in the store.
4. "Can someone pick me up from campus?"
Our apartment shuttle is a joke in the afternoon, so one of us just picks up the other from campus after school. These short runs usually end with us going to the store or grabbing food. Oops.
5. "I have to go to the bathroom...Can we get home soon?"
Usually stating this usually gets a huge laugh from the other girls. It's not fun being on the other end, let me tell you that.
6. "If I load the dishwasher, will you empty it?"
One of my roommates loves to unload it while I love to load it. Not all roommates are created equal. I got very lucky with her.
7. "Venmo $XX me for ______"
This one is especially said often between my roommates and I. It's just so much easier.
8. "What's for dinner?"
Cooking alone is okay, but cooking with a friend is even better. It does wonders for your grocery bill as well!
9. "Is it bad if I stay in all day?"
Some days you need reassurance that you can take a "you day."
10. "Send me that photo"
We are all constantly taking photos of each other.
11. "I love you guys"
These are the best years of your life; make them count with the people who count.
