The summer is a time for playing outside and finding hidden gems in small towns, or maybe jetting off to the big city to discover ancient works of arts in the oldest of museums. However you define adventure, it’s out there. It doesn’t need an invitation; sometimes journeys just take you there. It is from the best wanderers themselves that we can find words of inspiration, to start our own journeys. With a few summer excursions under my belt, these quotes have been the ones to resonate with me, thus far.
“The best journeys answer the questions that in the beginning you didn’t even think to ask.” 180 Degrees South.
“Leave the road, take the trails.” Pythagore.
“Nothing adventured, nothing attained.” Peter McWilliams.
“None of us want to be in calm waters all our lives.” Persuasion.
“Jobs fill the pockets, adventures fill your soul.” Jaime Lyn Beatty.
“Hope is not born on mountain tops, but in valleys when you’re looking to the heights and peaks you have yet to climb.”
“One way to get the most out of life is to look upon it as an adventure.” William Feather.
“Between every pine is a doorway to a new world.” John Muir.
“Wherever you go becomes a part of you somehow.” Anita Desai.
“The world is too big to stay in one place and life is too short to do just one thing.”
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Mark Twain.
“Of all the paths you take in life make sure some of them are dirt”
“Blessed are the curious for they shall have adventures.”
“Life is about courage and going in to the unknown”
Although Merriam-Webster’s dictionary includes danger in the definition of the word “adventure,” the most important phrase in my opinion is “an exciting or remarkable experience.” These experiences we have should be shared, making storytellers out of us all. They shouldn’t be left in notebooks, scribbled down on pages.
These journeys make up a big part of our own storybook. I guess what I have come to the conclusion after scrolling through multiple inspiration quotes about the outdoors, and just travel, adventure, etcetera; in general, is that it’s okay to question things and take paths that lead you to answers you weren’t expecting to arrive at.
Taking the dead end doesn’t make you reckless or irresponsible, it just leads you to a place where maybe not all go. In short, adventures and journeys are just a snapshot in the culmination of our life story. I for one hope that the knowledge attained by failure, by love, by taking dirt paths will not go untold but will serve as a inspiration of other fellow wanderers seeking a life of adventure and spontaneity, and sometimes all you need to spark the fire toward taking off on a crazy ride, is a good quote.
