We Should Be Collecting Moments, Not Things

Fill your life with experiences, not things. Have stories to tell, not stuff to show.

There is nothing more beautiful than being able to make memories and tell wonderful stories of the places you have been. Why waste your money on things that you don't really need, when that money can be spent in so many other ways? Isn't it so much more satisfying to go on adventures rather than shopping sprees? Think about it: if you go on $200 shopping spree, that money could have easily been used to buy a plane ticket somewhere amazing through Frontier Airlines. That money you spent to buy that new jacket could have been used to buy a concert ticket. It's crazy how fast money can add up, and just think about what adventures you could go on if you decide not to buy those shoes you have been eyeing.

Experiences ultimately make us happier than material items.

How many items do you own that may have seemed like a great purchase at the time, but are no longer serving a purpose in your life? We get bored of things; we need more experiences, more adventure, more excitement.

Living with less is always better.

I don't know about you, but recently, I have found my room to be home to many useless items, and I don't even remember when or why I bought them. This problem leads to a lot of clutter that you don't need in your life. Wouldn't you rather have a room full of pictures reminding you of memories from trips you went on instead of pointless clothing items or random objects? Don't they always say, less is more?

We all need a little more adventure.

Honestly, who doesn't love adventure? Going on trips to places I have never been before always excites me, and I would take a plane ride to a different state over a shopping spree any day. We need experiences and adventure. There is beauty in exploring a world that is foreign to you. There is so much adventure and excitement in going to a concert that you can't get from buying a new shirt. It is important for us to get out and go places, because I think that really shapes who you are as a person.

In the long run, spending money on experiences versus material items can be much more beneficial for our lives. Concerts, plane tickets, road trips. Don't those all sound way more appealing? Wouldn't you rather tell people about your trip to California, or that concert you went to, instead of showing off that new vest?

Collect moments, not things.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
