It seems like it was just yesterday.
Colin Kaepernick was on a football field taking a knee in his way of silently protesting against police brutality and harsh treatment of African Americans (blacks) everywhere. When people who disagreed with him and called for his removal (and even burned his football jerseys which were a waste if you ask me because homeless people and less fortunate people would have gladly taken it), Colin still stood strong and saw his support grow higher than his haters.
He inspired many people to hold the police accountable, especially the police chiefs. Everywhere people held officers accountable for extensive force, for harsh treatment, for pulling guns instead of tasers.
Colin Kaepernick faced a lot of criticism by using his right to peaceful protest. The main person who was down his throat was Donald Trump. Going as far as telling the NFL to suspend him and everyone that decides to exercise their right to peacefully protest. Even going as far as calling for the owners of the team to kick the protesters off.
Colin Kaepernick was faced with the decision of either his job or standing up for what he believed in. Colin stood up for what he believed in and stood for all those people who were afraid to take a stand.
Now Nike seeing the movement is standing behind Colin Kaepernick making him the new face of the Nike and America is loving it. Well, the part of America that supported Kaepernick silently protesting is once more standing behind him.
The new "Just Do It" Campaign highlights Colin Kaepernick's saying, "Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything," which is exactly what he is standing for. But, of course, not many people think he should be rewarded for his protest even going as far as to burn Nike gear and pledging to never wear it again.
But, on the upside, people everywhere are rallying with Colin Kaepernick buying Nike products and making videos in support of him. The silent protester found another way to get his word out and making sure that the voices of everyone who is standing against police brutality is heard.
Colin Kaepernick, I stand with and applaud you for standing strong even when many people are against you.
