Imagine your childhood dreams coming true. That's what came for North Carolina rapper J. Cole. Today, September 27th, marks 5 years since his first studio album was released. Cole has recorded a lot of music since the release of "Cole World: The Sideline Story," in 2011. His previous works include his successful mixtapes: "The Warm Up" & "Friday Night Lights."
The album was not easy to make with a timeline of over 4 years, which includes being rejected by rapper Jay-Z back in 2007, who later went on to sign him to his label, Roc Nation.Songs on the album include emotional, heartfelt topics based on his own life and his friends' experiences; Cole is one hell-of- a story-teller. Drake, Missy Elliot, and Trey Songz also played a part in his first, with their own features on the album. The work of art, along with his second studio recorded album, "Born Sinner," recently went platinum back in February.
Cole's more recent album "2014 Forest Hills Drive," was released in December of 2014. He is reportedly working on a collab album with Kendrick Lamar.
