Recently I discovered Colbie Caillat's album Gypsy Heart, which was released in 2014. With all of the hype of Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and other main stream artists, this album may have gotten over shadowed by most music lovers, but due to my love for Colbie Caillat and her music, I found this empowering album the other day.
Each song on this album goes towards helping empower you to be the best person you can be, without needing or relying on others, especially boys.
For those of you experiencing a rough patch or having a hard time seeing what the future holds, this album could be worth a listen for you, it was for me and is now easily one of my favorites.
The first song on this album is Live It Up, is about her thousands of fans that come across far and wide to hear her sing her music, yet she is still afraid. Throughout the song she tackles the idea that she is her biggest enemy being the only one that's stopping her and she really has no reason to not be fearless.
The second song is Blaze, which is one of the catchier songs on the album. This song is empowering to those that are already fearless, with lyrics encouraging those who are already doing something, to do it to the fullest effect because you only get to live life once.
The third song, If You Love Me Let Me Go, has much to do with the idea of waiting on someone who will never wait for you in return, yet the strings are still there. It's about wanting to be cut free from a one sided relationship that no longer serves that positive purpose anymore.
Her fourth song, Try, was selected as the lead single of this album after Caillat described this song as part of her venting experience after her label told her what she could and couldn't do. It's a matter of not having to try so hard as long as you are happy with yourself.
Continuing on with her idea of empowerment, the fifth song Never Gonna Let You Down, encourages us to turn inwards towards ourselves when we are having a difficult time to help ourselves find our way back.
The sixth song and one of my personal favorites is Land Called Far Away, which tackles the idea of princesses and little girls waiting for their prince in shining armor. This song proposes the idea of waiting for that one love which will exist in that "happy land" in a land far away and once going there, there isn't a return. To me this has much to do with dating and relationships and their difficulty to thrive in society today.
The next song is Nice Guys, which is another fan favorite. This idea is one I'm surprised not more artists have written about, the good guys versus the guys that we know aren't so good for us. Another issue in society today, the idea that people want something that they know isn't good for them, but continue to want that or try to pursue it when they will only get burned by it in the end. Why should nice guys always be the ones to finish last?
The eighth song, Floodgates, encourages those that have been broken to be broken for a little while and that it's okay to be broken as long as you know how to get back up. 'There's power in weakness' is something that is very true and very underrated some of the time. Being weak is the best way to get back up stronger.
The ninth song and tenth songs, Just Like That and Break Free, have a very similar theme to If You Love Me Let Me Go, which is the idea of leaving something that isn't healthy anymore no matter what it is because you know it's what's right for you.
The eleventh song is Never Getting Over You, whichis the other side of the previous songs, the after of someone walking out of our lives and those moments where we think we can't go on without them and feel we are at our weakest point.
The twelfth and final song is Bigger Love, which really wraps up the end of this album well after dealing with heartbreak and self-empowerment. This seems to be written about finding life's bigger love after everything we've been through. After all the times life has rattled us and shoved us down, we've all gotten up and turned our mistakes and challenges into something better, coming out of it with a bigger love for ourselves and our lives.
So, congrats if you made it to the end of this and I highly suggest everyone go listen to this album even though it's not the most recent or hippest thing on the charts right now. It's certainly one of my favorites to listen to at any point in time.
