The Future of Coffee And Technology

In This Article:

Coffee is the epitome of the beverage industry, with the average American drinking ~3.2 cups of coffee each day. This trend is not only seen in the US - people around the world have fallen in love with coffee, and it's considered to be one of the most common drinks around the globe. But as the demand for coffee continues to rise along with a rapid increase in technology development... what new and cutting-edge technologies can you expect from the coffee industry in the near future? Here are 3 ideas!

Artificial Intelligence

As the capabilities of artificial intelligence drastically expanded over the last few years, AI's ability to influence and positively impact a wide variety of industries (i.e. food, fashion, biotechnology, etc) has also increased accordingly. One way AI technology will influence the coffee industry is through its potential use in the coffee bean manufacturing process. Research studies have shown that AI practices could aid coffee bean farmers in accurately analyzing soil fertility properties and could generate an approximation of expected coffee yield for the season!

Blockchain

As technology and development continue to grow and evolve, consumers are calling for increased transparency in how many food and beverage products are produced. Studies have shown that many customers indicated that it is very important for food and beverage brands to be as transparent as possible. Company transparency is a factor for many consumers indicatng whether they will buy the product or not. The solution? Implementing a blockchain process would allow many coffee companies and suppliers to issue 'smart contracts' which are meant to highlight mutually agreed upon terms that are continuously documented. This would allow the quality and lineage of the coffee beans to be traceable and helps guarantee the high quality of the goods sold, leaving both the consumer and supplier happy!

Drones

Many companies, most notably Amazon, have started using drones to expedite their shipping processes. Drones have also become increasingly used among many for recreational usage. So how do drones play into the coffee industry? Well, IBM (a multinational information technology company) has recently patented a drone that solely exists to deliver coffee and other drinks. The drone would actually be able to detect and measure physiological effects such as blood pressure, pupil dilation and the basic cognitive state of a person through a smart-watch/Fit-Bit type of device. One of the sketches for the potential drone actually showed coffee dispensed directly from the drone into a person's mug!

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
