Who loves coffee? Better yet, who NEEDS coffee?? It’s safe to say I’m not a very nice person to be around until I’ve had my morning coffee (or two, or five). Sometimes good ol' Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts just don't cut it for me. One of my favorite things to do, especially in the cool fall weather, is to go to a cute coffee shop with homework or a good book, and cuddle up on a comfy chair with a warm and delicious latte and an almond croissant. Something about this aroma helps me to be more productive. I love changing it up and finding new places for “me” time. If you’re like me, then I’m here to tell you some of the special places I’ve found where I love to spend my afternoons and get stuff done. Let’s get to it!

Silk City Coffee, Manchester

This has become my new favorite coffee shop! The aesthetic of this place is unlike anything I've experienced before. Whether you're looking for a place to spend a few hours getting work done, if you live in the area and need a quick coffee on the way to work, or if you're looking for a place to meet up with a group of friends, this is your place, my friends. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Every employee is consistently upbeat and eager to provide customers with the best coffee and best experience; hence their motto "Love coffee, Love people." I don't even think twice about the hour drive to go to this coffee shop. Need I say more?

Neat, Westport or Darien

Easily one of my favorites, "Neat" totally lives up to their name. You never have to worry about getting a bad latte art design for Instagram because they've perfected it each and every time. Even though this is also a restaurant and bar, you don't need to feel awkward about going there to work alone either. Their recent renovation has made the place extremely cozy no matter what time of year. I always feel like I'm in New York City when I go here. Did I mention their Westport location is actually an old firehouse? How neat! ;)

The Granola Bar, Westport

The Granola Bar is more of a restaurant but I've gone there plenty of times just for a latte and to read. Everything on the menu deserves an A+. Wonderful place, wonderful servers. I recommend the green tea latte because it is phenomenal and you really can't get anything else like it around here. The design is very modern and very cute.

Perk on Main, Middletown

I had to mention this place because not only is their coffee gourmet tasting, but they have crepes that are to die for! As their name says, they are located on Main Street in Middletown and it is small inside but it's also cozy! This is a good place to grab a coffee and go, or to stay and work.

Cheshire Coffee, Waterbury or Cheshire

This is where I go when I need something to substitute for Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks (I'm not shaming these brands because let's face it, I have Dunkin approximately six times a week but sometimes something different is nice). My favorite thing about Cheshire Coffee is that their coffee flavors literally taste like they should. "French Toast" tastes like the liquid variation of your favorite breakfast. If you love good coffee, you'll love Cheshire Coffee. The aroma of Cheshire Coffee feels similar to Starbucks. There's also plenty of comfortable space if you wanted to bring your laptop and study or meet friends.

Do you have a favorite coffee shop of your own that I didn't mention? Let me know!

Bye for now!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
