Coming into college I thought the bar scene was where I would be every weekend, dancing with my friends and meeting new people. But, I soon came to realize that local coffee shops are better hangouts on the weekend than bars for many reasons.
First off is the noise level. It is actually very difficult to meet new people when you are out because one, every one is intoxicated and two, it is super loud in such small college bars. In a coffee house you can actually chat to people while good music is playing instead of having loud music that you don't even like blasting through the room.
Also, you can actually be productive if you are hanging out in a coffee shop. It is totally acceptable to spend a Saturday night sipping on a chai latte and doing homework rather than stumbling around in uncomfortable heels worrying about the paper you have due tomorrow.
Really cool people hangout at coffee houses too. It is not all just hipsters sharing the latest weird music, there are writers, artists, and people you can learn a lot from in these places.
Bars are fun, but try going to a coffee shop in your college town. You will meet cool people, drink delicious drinks and relax in a comfortable atmosphere.
