It starts off as one cup, and then it all goes downhill from there. From personal experience the addiction only gets worse, and for me, I do not consider it a bad thing in most aspects. From that first sip, your whole world is changed. The sound of coffee brewing is one of the first things I can remember from a young age. Okay, maybe that was slightly dramatic, but coffee becomes a staple in most peoples' lives. I started drinking coffee at a young age and it has only progressed since then. I was introduced to it by none other than my grandmother and it started as a treat we got when we went to my grandparents' house. Before I knew it, by the age of about 16, I was drinking two to three cups just to make it through the day.
In college, it is even harder to resist the attraction to coffee. It seems to be everywhere, very readily available. Places like Starbucks and Atomic Coffee provide students with a place to study or simply hang out with your friends. For freshman, it is a way to get out of your dorm or to get a little space from that crazy roommate. If you are lucky, you start to become a regular at these places and they start to recognize you. Suddenly, they know your daily order along with your name and social security number. So my question to all you readers out there is how much is too much? Do you find yourself leaving class early just to go get a coffee for the walk home? I do. Things like that are extreme, but when you love coffee, you love coffee, ya know?
My dad buys me the huge pack of K-Cups from Sam's for my Keurig, like the packs of 84 cups. This ensures I will never have to wake up to the disappointment of no caffeine -- gotta love those parents, sometimes. Coffee is what begins my day, and ends it. I always have it in the morning, and some nights I love to sip some coffee before bed. Ah, the beauty of those one cup machines.
To all you fellow coffee addicts out there -- the answer is no. There is never an overdose of caffeine. If you are going to have to carry around gum and mints for the rest of your life, and you accept the stained teeth, then it is completely your prerogative to inhale that coffee. My only advice is get more people to join the coffee train, then maybe we won't look as crazy and then everyone will have stained teeth and bad breath. So spread the word, people, and help make people like me look slightly less insane.
