Coffee dates
They seem to be the cool thing that everyone is doing lately.
“Can I take you out for coffee sometime?”
“Would you like to meet my friend and I for coffee after work?”
There is just something so simple yet beautiful about people joining together in conversation while sipping on a fresh cup of Joe.
While spending time with those we love while drinking heaven in a cup seems just about as amazing as life can get, there is still someone else I would rather go on a coffee date with.
Coffee dates are simple, yet so sophisticated. Coffee dates can hold everyday small talk that can lead to intimate conversations. There is just something so special about meeting someone and sharing your heart with them as you sip in the splendors of the coffee goodness.
That is why, if given the opportunity, I would love to have a coffee date with Jesus. I would love to just sit back in the corner of a small coffee shop and just physically sit in the presence of our sweet Savior and just share my heart with Him. Tell Him about my heart’s deepest desires and about the things of this world that break my heart. I would share my dreams and the ways I hoped to serve Him and bring glory to His name. Man, my little heart just flutters and gets so excited at the idea of sipping coffee with Jesus and being in His presence. But through all of this, I find myself wondering, is it the coffee date with Jesus that makes this idea so sweet, or is it the presence of my Savior Himself that makes this idea so sweet?
Allow me to let you in on a little secret. While this idea of going on a coffee date with Jesus sounds amazing, I don’t need coffee to be able to share my heart with Jesus. I can tell Jesus about my dreams and heartache whenever I want. I don’t need be sitting in a coffee shop drinking coffee to share my heart with Him. That’s the amazing thing about Jesus; He wants to hear from us. He wants to know how we are doing.
He wants to hold our heart when we cry and to hear that His goodness has brought us joy.
We don’t need to get all dressed up and go out on a date to spend time with Jesus. All we need to spend time with Jesus is time. He wants to spend time with us so badly, and He is waiting to hear from us, but we need to make the effort to meet Him as well. He is always willing and ready to talk to us, but we just need to approach Him with an open heart. I think sometimes we forget how easy it is to talk to Jesus. Even if you don’t know the words to say, He still wants to hear from you. Just like you can hear His voice in the quiet, He can hear the pain or joy of your heart without you muttering a word. So while a coffee date with Jesus may sound like exactly what you need right now, it’s not. All you need is to be with Jesus (but a big cup of coffee doesn’t hurt either!).
