Whether you are running on Dunkin or trying out your new Teavana set, it seems that there is always a preference over coffee or tea. How can we truly know which is better or worse for you when there are constant studies showing different facts? Well, we can’t beat the basics of each. They both have a fair share in pros and cons.
Antioxidants
Coffee:
“Americans get more of their antioxidants from coffee than any other dietary source,” says chemistry professor Joe Vinson, Ph.D. This doesn’t mean that it is the only source for antioxidants, but it seems that with the coffee runs and morning routines, coffee might be the best way our country gets its antioxidant supply. Antioxidants can also be found in different berries and a variety of juices. The benefits include anti-aging effects and immunity strength.
Tea:
Tea is also very rich in antioxidants. You can experience many of the benefits from different types of tea as well. For example, green tea and white tea might be your go to if you are trying to get more antioxidants in your system. According to Mark Ukra, writer of “The Ultimate Tea Diet, “They both come from the same camellia senensis plant, yet the way they are processed is where the different levels of oxidation come into play.”
Anti-Depression
Coffee:
“Caffeine not only stimulates the central nervous system but may act as a mild antidepressant by boosting production of certain neurotransmitters in the brain, including serotonin, dopamine, and noradrenaline,” says Kate Hammer at Harvard. Maybe that’s why a lot of people say not to talk to them until they have had their coffee--we are all to miserable to function without it!
Tea:
There isn’t a lot of research out there that shows a tie between tea and anti-depression, but let’s keep our eyes peeled for other benefits.
Skin benefits
Coffee:
A study conducted at Harvard Medical School discovered that drinking at least three cups of coffee a day have a higher chance of avoiding skin cancer over those who don’t drink any coffee.
Tea:
If you’re looking for a more radiant glow, then tea can help you get there! Burdock tea can help promote clear skin with it’s natural blood purifiers. Remember, you are what you eat! It all starts from the inside.
Next time you are going for your morning coffee routine, maybe try a cup of tea. If you’re more of the tea drinker, then why not give coffee a try? It seems that there is either a strong love for just one of them, but nobody said that you cant love both! Just remember that all is well in moderation.
