12 Reasons Your Coffee Addiction Isn't Cute, It's Actually Dangerous

In This Article:

I love coffee and like most people, I could drink multiple cups a day. I used to drink multiple cups a day until I did some research. There are many good things coffee can do for you, but excessive amounts are bad for your health. You might want to think twice before getting your second cup of coffee.

1. Too much coffee can cause anxiety

High amounts of caffeine can cause your body to experience rapid heart rates, warmer temperature, and increase breathing rate. These things are the same symptoms you feel when you have anxiety. Your body recognizes this as anxiety and will make your body think you are anxious. This will really affect you if you already experience anxiety.

2. It can cause you to hear things

Although this is rare, high intakes of coffee with a mix of stress can cause you to hear things that aren't there. How scary is that?

3. You will gain weight

Black coffee does not cause weight gain. However, the majority of coffee drinkers put cream and sugar in their coffee and that does cause weight gain. Be careful if you're a Frappuccino lover. There are 42 grams of sugar in just one tall mocha Frappuccino!

4. Your teeth will get more yellow and yellow teeth aren't cute at all

The ingredients that make your teeth yellow in coffee are called tannins. Tannins are also in wine and tea. Yellow teeth already occur naturally, your coffee addiction is just making it worse.

5. You may experience insomnia

Excessive amounts of coffee can cause insomnia. This will only make your addiction worse. If you can't sleep at night, you wake up exhausted, then you'll need more coffee, and then the next night you can't sleep again. It's a vicious cycle!

6. It will make you go to the bathroom a lot

Coffee makes you pee more because of the caffeine in it. Caffeine is a diuretic which causes your bladder to fill up quickly. Even just one cup can make you need to go frequently!

7. It may interfere with other medications you're taking

If you take medication, you may want to consult a doctor beforehand. It could be unsafe drinking coffee while you're on medication. Sometimes caffeine can irritate medications!

8. You are prone to stomach ulcers

Stomach ulcers can come from anything that causes an increase of acid production in the stomach. Coffee is one that can cause this. Drinking high amounts of coffee can put you at risk for stomach ulcers.

9. It is a literal addiction — the more you drink, the more you need

Once you drink coffee excessively, your body will need it. Even if you only want one cup, your body will crave another.

10. Coffee can make you moody

I'm already moody so I don't need coffee making it worse. Drinking lots of coffee can make you irritable, sad, and anxious. Initially, you may feel happy and awake but crashing from high amounts of caffeine can leave you sad and anxious.

11. You will experience withdrawal symptoms when you do quit

Drinking numerous amounts of coffee can make you addicted. Once you're addicted, it is very hard to stop. You will get withdraw symptoms, such as irritability, depression, and anxiety. I stopped drinking coffee for one week and got headaches. It is not a fun time.

12. It is linked to early death

Studies say, drinking more than 4 cups of coffee regularly can lead to an early death. If you put all these factors together, you can see why.

Be careful when you go for the next cup of coffee. Although I am a huge coffee lover, it's good to know your limits.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
