Our society is stuck in a chaotic, fast-paced lifestyle. It's all about convenience. We want everything to be fast and easy. Driving somewhere? We are always in a hurry to get to our destination. Waiting for something to load on your phone or computer? We lose all patience. Hungry? Drive-thru. Need some caffeine in your system? We always are searching for the speediest way to get our coffee in our system. Regular coffee machines are a thing of the past, it's all about quick and simple coffee machines like a single cup Keurig machine, going through the drive-thru of Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks, or even instant coffee.
No one takes the time anymore to get a bag of coffee beans, grind the beans, pour the ground coffee in a filter, heat up water, and pour it over your trendy (probably only used for decoration) Chemex.
My older brother has inspired me. Almost every day he reserves time to make his coffee with precision and care. Figuring out the correct ratio of beans to water to each and every type of coffee beans he buys. I mean, did you even know coffee roasters make different coffee beans with notes of flavor similar to wine? His newest bag of coffee beans has notes of passion fruit, mango, and cashew. He chooses to drink coffee not for his daily caffeine intake but for the pleasure of being able to sit down and enjoy a nice cup of coffee.
What I guess I am trying to get at here is that next time you are going through the Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts drive-thru next time think about going to a locally owned coffee shop instead and reserving time to sit down and just sip your coffee. Grab a book or even a friend to catch up with to join you. Make coffee a social aspect of your life, not just part of your daily routine.
