Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is one of the most well known music festivals in the United States. The three day annual music festival hosts a variety of artists and bands at the (outrageously expensive) cost of around $300 and apparently, in recent news, the support of anti-LGBTQ groups. It has been revealed that owner Phillip Anschutz has donated to such hate groups in the past.
So for those of us who cannot afford Coachella 2017 or who refuse to take part in anything associated with hate groups, fear not! Although you will be missing out on Radiohead, the music angels the heavenly skies have gifted us, there are many more artists who are not featured in this year’s line up (although should have been)!
1. At The Drive-In
How could Coachella forget At the Drive-In after their reunion and 2016 comeback? The post hardcore/experimental band formed in 1993 and has been making music ever since. Recently they have announced to go on tour and release new music.
2. Archy Marshall
Archy Marshall, aka King Krule, made his latest appearance in the United States at the 2016 Beach Goth festival. Marshall has several ep's out and two full length albums. Needless to say, we need more Archy in our lives!
3. Angel Olsen
Angel Olsen's most recent album My Woman has gained a positive amount of attention. Olsen has been featured in NPR music's top artists, songs, and album reviews. Olsen is on tour right now with many of her shows already sold out.
4. Alabama Shakes
Is it really a festival without the passion and heart Alabama Shakes brings to their performances? Alabama Shakes play their songs with a variety of blues, rock, and soul in a delicate yet powerful way.
5. The Arcs
Dan Auerbach, lead guitarist and vocalist of the Black Keys, began his side project, The Arcs, in 2015 and have since performed in a number of well known music events such as NPR music festivals and The Village for KCRW.
6. Tame Impala
Tame Impala is just the type of psychedelic pop/rock band you would want at your festival to get the crowd who is already on hallucinatory drugs to dance to!
7. Lianne La Havas
Lianne La Havas steals hearts when she plays rhythmic soul and jazz progressions on her guitar. Her voice is the sweet sweet icing on top.
8. The Districts
This Pennsylvania band has recently gone on tour with Dr. Dog, who have previously performed at Coachella. The band has been present since 2009 and are making there way up to the well known music scene. They have previously performed in the Glastonbury festival and KEXP.
9. Mothers
Music festivals should be where music lovers go to explore and discover new music just as much as it is for seeing your favorite bands and artists. Mothers formed in 2013, recently put out a new album, and were featured in Npr's Tiny Desk Concert.
10. Hop Along
Hop Along is yet another band that is making themselves known through grand performances at festivals such as Sasquatch hosted by KEXP, FYF, and NPR Tiny Desk Concert.
