Runway 27. A club? More like an experience worth having!

What is Runway 27 you ask? Runway 27 is a student run club at the Fashion Institute of Technology. This organization has produced and hosted an annual fashion show every fall, for the past four years.

Here's a few facts about Runway 27

1. Runway 27 is separated into 3 different committees. Each committee has its own responsibilities.

The Merchandising Committee handles the wardrobe and sponsors for the show. They have some absolutely amazing designers in the show this year's sponsors include: French Connection, WDNY, Faviana, Ralph Lauren, Sam Edelman, Cosabella, Lands End, Maaji, Cult Individuality, NYC Vintage, and more!

The Public Relations Committee handles everything from the guest list to the advertising and social media.

The Production Committee handles the preparation and set for the fashion show.

2. Runway 27 has held 4 fashion shows so far

3. The club was started in 2013

4. They have an executive board of representatives within the group to oversee the entire fashion show. The executive board goes as followed:

Club AdvisorProfessor Lori Massaro
President Hannah Owens
Vice President Gregory Pepe
Secretary Liz Clark
Treasurer Erin Stief

Men’s Merch Kaily Adamic & Cade Boss
Women’s Merch Tara Hull & Amber Castellanos

I actually had the chance to go to one of their meetings this past week. It was definitely a stressful meeting because it was a week before the fashion show. I sat in on the full meeting (I definitely plan on going to others). While there may be around 80 student members, this club is very well-run and controlled. Each person has a voice in the matter. Just to put it into perspective; the meeting started at about 1 p.m. in room C508. I took a good friend with me. (She's also one of the first people to go through each article I write, HEY EM!) The meeting started with a few words from the executive board. They discussed that nominations will be held the week after the fashion show for a new executive board. After, there was a presentation about possible makeup looks for the show, (Fun Fact: one of their sponsors this year is actually NYX cosmetics, which actually came about through their social media) The makeup looks are definitely amazing, if I do say so myself. After an open discussion with the entire club, they separated into the committees. I actually did a small bounce around from one committee to another, sitting in more on the PR committee meeting, where they spoke of hashtags, swag bags, ticket sales and VIP guests.

After researching the club itself, interviewing their club president Hannah Owens (thank you so much by the way Hannah!) and experiencing a club meeting itself, I must say that this is more than just a club. It is most definitely an experience worth having!

So if you've ever thought about joining, just go to one of their meetings or even just shoot them an email (I'll make sure to include all of their information at the end of this article). They're always welcoming new members. Even if you are not looking to join the club I would highly recommend attending their upcoming fashion show! Tickets are being sold in the breezeway. Tickets are free for FIT students and $5 for non-students. It's going to be a great show! The theme this year is Kaleidoscope Dream. The show will be this Thursday, November 17th in the Haft Auditorium at 7 pm.

Hope to see you there!
I'll be writing an article about the show next week as well, so stay tuned!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

9 Reasons Why Friends Are Essential In College

College without friends is like peanut butter without jelly.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
