In case you missed it while you were sleeping, on Monday night around a thousand Penn State students took to the streets after hearing reports of multiple clowns on campus.
The reports allegedly began on Yik-Yak and spread like wildfire throughout the various social media platforms. There is no origin of where the rumors began.
Beginning around 11:50pm, the students poured out of their dorms gathering at Pollock Halls where they began chanting 'We Are' and other Penn State chants and even climbed into trees. They then dashed, equipped with baseball bats, hockey sticks, tennis racquets and golf clubs, down College Ave to the Old Main lawn, where it was rumored a clown had been spotted.
The Penn State police monitored the mob from midnight to 3 a.m., although no police action was necessary. There was no criminal activity but there were some noise complaints.
At the Old Main lawn, the mob chanted 'F--- THE CLOWN' displaying their disapproval of the clown frenzy.
Students began leaving Old Main around 1:15 a.m. but the commotion continued throughout social media and sparked attention with various news organizations, such as TIME and Good Morning America.
Penn State is not the only college campus with alleged clown sightings though. James Madison University, Temple, Uconn, Umass and many others across the country have encountered these reports.
Officers never confirmed whether or not there were clowns on or around campus.
One thing is to be learned from this; Don't mess with Penn Staters, especially if you're a clown.
