Nine Closet Basics Everyone Needs Before College

Your classes are hard enough, here's a cheat sheet for what your closet needs.

1. Plain White Tee

This is the basic that everyone needs at least one of. This shirt is a staple for any wardrobe.

2. A Good Pair of Jeans

A solid pair of jeans can last for a couple of years, at least. Try to look for investment jeans that may seem pricier at first, but will actually save you money in the long run.

3. A Warm Winter Coat

Whether you are walking across campus or just walking out to your car, a warm coat will save your life.

4. Plain Black Leggings

Leggings have quickly become a staple in my wardrobe, and I'm sure they are in yours, too. Instead of buying the cheap $5 leggings at Forever 21, invest in a sturdier pair that will last for longer.

5. A Simple Professional Outfit

You never know when you may be asked to do something for a class that has you scrambling to look put together. Stick to clean lines with black pants, a white button-up, and a black blazer.

6. A Cozy Cardigan

You could bring a blanket with you to class, but you might get some weird looks. Instead, wear a cozy cardigan that will leave you feeling like you never left your bed.

7. A Baseball Cap

Let's face it: at least once over the semester, you will have a bad hair day. Find a cute pop of color that will draw attention to your hat, not your day-old hair.

8. A Sturdy Pair of Boots

A nice pair of boots can last you for a long time. Find boots in neutral colors, like tan or black, that you can pair with any number of outfits.

9. A Comfortable Pair of Sneakers

A comfortable pair of sneakers could save you after a day of classes. I recommend looking for shoes in white or black so you can mix and match as much as you'd like.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
